I have been working on fixing my code and really screwed up something which is not surprising because I’m a beginner. I have a backup file for my index file but cannot access for another 8 hours which is a big problem. It looks like I probably edited something out I need in the section for my main content. Its obvious what the problem is when you view the page. If anyone can spot what I did–I’d appreciate it. I get a good number of visitors to my site and being down all day is not a very good option.

Sorry for the ineptness….I probably deleted a </div> or something like that that I need. Funny thing is, when I logged out last night, the page looked just fine.

Heh. Shows up fine in Firefox, but not in IE. Don’t you just love IE? ??

Also, the XHTML Validator is your friend: https://validator.w3.org

Naturally, the validator shows tons of errors, but then it usually does when you leave tags out somewhere. Just start finding and fixing the errors it sees one by one, and revalidate after each fixed problem. Eventually, you’ll get it working.

Otto42: Yes, I know the validator is supposed to be my friend but its how I got into this mess in the first place–working on getting my code validated.

I looked at it in both IE and Firefox and it doesnt appear fine to me at all. All of my post content has been pushed over to a thin area on the left so its virtually unreadable.

If it looks okay to you, perhaps I have a problem I dont even know about!

Yup, FF looks ok. Be sure to clear the local browser cache (ctrl-F5) after making changes.

Okay, BIZARRE! I even had someone call me and tell me they are seeing what I saw.

I do see what you’re talking about, but only in IE.

Really, I can’t see what the problem is beyond the various errors that the validator is spitting out. And most of these are lack of closing tags. Add some closing tags where they’re needed. Looks like one of the sidebars is missing a /ul, for example.

Seriously, how could I and at least one other person be seeing something completely different than you guys? I cleared my cache in Firefox and all the main content still shows in a thin stripe down the left side of the main part of the page. Any ideas?

It’s broken in IE6 just to confirm.

Looks like to me that you’re missing a third closing div tag right after the google advert. Wordked for me when I put one in there.

    Hope this helps,
