Main page loading soooo slowly

  • I’ve not made a recent change to my site (i.e. plugins or anything), yet my site’s main page (and only the main page) loads extremely slow. First time this has happened to me. I’ve tried disabling plugins and such, to no avail. Any ideas?

  • With a 318 KB header image + zillion of images + too many posts displayed… no wonder ??

    I just tried it (broadband). Only a slight wait. My guess would be the size of the various graphics, but you said this is the first time you’ve encountered the delay. FWIW, sometimes, for reasons beyond anyone’s control, page loads slow down. The ones after page #1 seem quicker, because the images etc are already downloaded and in cache. Suggest you wait a few days before you get seriously concerned.

    Since this has happened suddenly, it’s probably a hosting issue. However, you could try to optimize your MySQL tables via phpmyadmin. That may improve the situation. See: https://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2005/04/06/optimize-your-database/

    Oh yeah, it’s definitely the file size of your various images.

    Thanks, everyone! I’ll reduce the image sizes. I’ve been clawing my way through web design and such, and there are certain things (like image size) that don’t occur to me like they would to an experienced person. Thanks again.
