• Last Friday, my blog was looking fine. I was out of town for the weekend (without internet access, so did nothing to it), and this morning I see that the main page is looking weird, just the header and a few items from my menubar:

    https://www.studiomarlowe.com

If I navigate to individual blog posts, it looks fine:

    https://studiomarlowe.com/2011/09/stripey/

From digging on the forums I thought the problem might be a wonky html tag somewhere, so I went and unpublished the last couple of posts. No joy. I’m wondering if anyone might be able to point me in another direction? Thanks!

So, followup to myself…it appears that the main page is not calling a stylesheet, while the other pages are. However, I can’t figure out how to edit the main page so that it does call a style sheet. Anyone care to throw me a bone?

    So, some more info:

The timing of this problem seems to coincide with my webhost doing some upgrades. I noticed that an error log had been created around the time the problems started. The majority of errors in the error log read as so:

[25-Sep-2011 04:19:08] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613//usr/local/Zend/lib/ew/4.4/execwall.so’ – /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613//usr/local/Zend/lib/ew/4.4/execwall.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

I contacted my webhost but they’ve been quite insistent that they’ve fixed all errors and that the problem must be on my end. They’re suggesting that my theme is not compatible with their PHP installation (5.2.17). They suggested trying a different theme. I have been using twenty ten, so I tried twenty eleven. Did not work any better.

Given the “upgrade” my host did at the same time as the problem started I’m inclined to think it’s due to something they did, but I can’t figure out WHAT, which is making the customer service with them quite drawn out.

If anyone has ANY suggestions, either for fixing the problem myself or telling my host what it is they need to fix, I would be uber-appreciative.

That’s definitely a server issue. Send them a copy of that line from the error log.

Thank you! I actually did send them that error (as well as screenshots of the problem page and a “good” page). Their response was “those were log errors recorded but they were already fixed”. But the main page is still not functional (if you click on the two links in my first post you can see the difference). I guess what I’m wondering now is if that particular error can can be related to the problem I’m having? And if so, what is the correct terminology for the problem? I think I’m pretty much going to have to be able to tell my host exactly.what.the.problem.is.and.how.to.fix.it. to get this sorted out.

Longer term, I’m feeling my real answer may be “get a more helpful host”, grr…

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Tried the first two, but not the third, so I’ll give that a go and see what happens. Thanks so much for the suggestions!

And, #3, resetting plugins folder, doesn’t seem to work either. Thank you for the suggestions though! I notice my webhost now has a notice up in their “news” section for “if you’re having problems with wordpress” so I’m guessing I may not be the only one with problems…

If anyone has further insight into a solution, I’m all ears.

I’m sorry I’m no help, but I’m having the same problem. My main page looks odd, but when you click on an individual page, everything looks normal. I have very little knowledge about the techie side of blogging so I have no idea what to do, but I’ll follow this post to see if anyone has any solutions. Good luck to you!
