Maybe it was because of the latest outstanding update: My maintenance mode was turned active by itself and without visits in the backend from me as the only registered user!
This is a catastrophe, if the accessibility of your website is absolutely important!
I uninstalled the plugin immediately. Regards!

  • Hello @poeadmin,

The maintenance mode can’t be activated without any user interaction. Do you have a cache plugin (W3 Total Cache)?

    Thanks.

No i have not. But there is no other user except me. So, i got hacked?

This strange behaviour usually appears because of a bad “empty cache” mechanism (and there are a lot of cache plugins with problems).
As I said, the maintenace mode can’t be activated without going to “Settings” -> “WP Maintenance Mode” -> “Status: Activated” and save the settings.
If you don’t have a cache plugin (as you already said), maybe you should check your wp install…
