Major blunder in upload file

    The upgrade instructions that came with the upgrade …. readme.html … suck. I wasted an entire day on this.

    This is what it says … This is a MAJOR blunder:

    Upgrading
    Before you upgrade anything, make sure you have backup copies of any files you may have modified such as index.php.

    Upgrading from any previous WordPress to 2.6.1:
    Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified.
    Upload the new files.
    Point your browser to /wp-admin/upgrade.php.
    You wanted more, perhaps? That’s it!

    Yeah. A lot more. After wasting an entire day, I finally found the SIX PAGES of correct upgrade instructions.

    Posts like this irritate the crap out of me! Why would you need six pages of instructions to upgrade when everything you needed to do was included in those few lines that you say “suck”? If you ineffectively spent an entire day trying to accomplish the very simple task of upgrading WP, you should probably use wordpress.com.

    You’re both wong. And I’ve been creating web pages since 1995, slick. This is merely my first WordPress update.

    And who are you to claim the Codex here is worthless? Do you even have a clue what’s in the Codex, versus the the “total instructions” packd with the download.

    Here are the total instructions:
    Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified.
    Upload the new files.
    Point your browser to /wp-admin/upgrade.php.
    You wanted more, perhaps? That’s it!

    If you knew what you were talking about, the lines that SUCK never tell users any of the following:

    1) Deactivate all plugins.
    2) Backup the database
    3) Which files and directories to delete, before uploading.
    4) Update permalinks and .htaccess, and merge special rules into .htaccess

    And several other less critical steps.

    Oh yeah: ADD THE THREE SECURITY KEYS.

    lESSON OF THE DAY: Before insulting me, try knowing what you’re talking about.

    Now try and do something productive around here … and helping users … instead of babbling about things you know nothing about.
