Just experienced a horrific fail in attempting to restore a site.

I had inadvertently overwritten files in the wp-content folder, which has destroyed the website! I downloaded 3 zip files from Google Drive for the uploads, plugins, and themes and extracted them to a folder on my local machine. Assuming they were valid files, I used Filezilla to move them back onto the server. Things were still VERY messed and I took a look in the uploads folder. There were all sorts of files that had no reason to be there and have really destroyed my Media Library.

This is the second failure I’ve had with this plugin. My confidence is totally shaken, and I’ll be looking for something to replace it.

    What a disaster!

    Hi,

    Sorry to hear that.

It is possible that the plugins and theme are not working properly because the database has not been updated.

    Thanks,

No – I’ve been in the database and the most important stuff looks good.? There seems to be some major corruption as some plugins which are in wp-content are not being recognized.
The database was untouched as I just accidentally overwrote the plugins folder.? I did not attempt to restore the database as it didn’t seem needed.? The GoDaddy service has gotten VERY slow since this so I’m def VERY confused. The Media library is not working correctly… a frekin’ disaster! And I was on hold for TWO hours attempting to get tech support… Def gotta dump that service.

I’ve got 6 hours on this now – no end in sight!

PS – as I’m thinking about it – you may have hit on something. The database was “current” and zip files were from a day back… may have to try running the db sql-scriot that was part of the backup.

I’ve been working tbru Filezilla – is it too late to try a restore from Updraft?

    Hi,

You can still attempt to restore the database even if you have already restored the files.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,

I just attempted a restore and near the end, it stopped with an error message that something is blocking the restore. I’m on a 44-minute hold with GoDaddy hoping they may have some info on what might have blocked the restore.

If I have to try again, do I have to delete WP, reinstall or what have to I do to redo the restore? This is still a nightmare!

    Hi,

To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the restoration log?
You can find this log in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of your site via FTP.
You can send the log file and copy the contents into an online tool (such as https://pastebin.com/ )

    Regards,
    Bryle

There were three logs – here is the longest one, plus one from failed resume panel

    https://pastebin.com/dl/z1U2dAsw

From what GoDaddy tech’s said, I think there was a short loss of resources that caused the failure. I’m wondering if I can just delete the restored folder and run the restor again…

    Hi,

    Apologies for the late reply.

The log shows that the process has been timed out or killed off. This is a common issue for Godaddy hosted websites. The best solution is to have them increase your server resouces and if not the you can manually restore your website. We have a guide here – https://updraftplus.com/faqs/i-want-to-restore-but-have-either-cannot-or-have-failed-to-do-so-from-the-wp-admin-console/

    Thanks,
    Bryle
