• Hi
    I am a total newbie.
    I have met several problems.
    1. I installed wordpress last night sucessfully. I adjusted a few things in the admin panel and then when I tried to log onto the admin panel to post, I was unable to get there. The blog page was disp;aed with no posts found, not even the hello world post.

I then deleted wordpress from my website server, deleted the associated MySQL database and user and started again.

When I went to run the install.php script, i get a plain page to neter site name my wordpress username and set password. I do not get the wordpress logoed for I got the first time.
When I fill in the details and hit the install button, the browser goes to a google page.

When I try to access the blog I get the install page again.

    Help would be greatly appreciated

    Regards

    Ruairi

I have just uploaded the wordpress files again and still getting the same result.

When I check the MySQ database for the blog, no users have been created.

    Still bamboozled

What else is in the directory where you installed WordPress?

    Do you have an URL?

There was nothing else in the directory.

I have since had a look at the source code and apparently the install script is not picking up on either logos or the readme document link
    the url is https://www.oaktreepix.com/myblog

    thank you for your reply.

delete all files and folders and re upload as looks like you may have corrupted files during transfer

I have done that but I think I am going to do it again. I even put the blog in a new directory now it is saying there is a problem with the user.php file in wp-includes.

I think I will start from scratch with a fresh copy of wordpress download, put it in a different directory and before all that delete the present folder both on my home Mac and on the website server.

I\ll get this started and let you all know.

Thank you again for your help. 4.00am this morning I lost what little hair I have left!!

No. There is something else. There are a lot of things at https://www.oaktreepix.com and it looks like those things are using Front Page. My guess is that something in that root directory is causing the redirect, and Front Page itself may be causing trouble.

The original website was built using frontpage. However, I have now discontinued using frontpage and am using dreamweaver to develop the site. I deliberately installed wordpress in its own directory rather than root to insulate it from any untoward effects of anything else in the site. It was working when I first installed last nite so it must be possible to get it working again. Frontpage is an authoring tool so I can’t see how files in totally different directories would affect wordpress!!

But then again, nothing surprises me with computers!

An .htaccess file in the root directory can effect everything in the root folder and in all subfolders.

FrontPage is not just an authoring tool. It installs software and configuration files on the server and it can cause conflicts other software.

Thanks for that. I did not understand that.

Well, it looks like re-installing has done the trick. I am back in business. Now to be careful what I adjust.

Thanks for your help guys. I am sure it won’t be the last time I need assistance.
