Make a backup first

    ShortPixel turned out not to have permissions to write the optimized images back into my uploads folder. However that didn’t stop it optimizing 107 or so images before it told me I needed to increase the quota.

    Because of lack of permissions all the processed images instead were deleted. I had a backup to restore from.

    Please test that the plugin can write into the folder before operating destructively!

    Follow up:

    It seems there must have been another reason why the images were missing in my blog and it seems unlikely now ShortPixel was to blame and likely a caching bug as I was fighting with two caching plugins after the fact.

    I’ll give this another go!

    thanks for your message, I understand that you might be furious but please allow me to disagree with your message & conclusion. I believe there is a misunderstanding.

    First of all the plugin do have multiple checks in place to make sure that such a case like the one described by you doesn’t occur. Actually you’re the first person that I can remember to ever complain about the images being deleted.

    Second, I believe there is a contradiction in what you wrote: if the original image doesn’t have the right permissions to be overwritten then it cannot be deleted either! So even if there weren’t multiple checks in place your original image wouldn’t have been deleted.

    Third: I just checked your optimization report with us and I randomly chose an image

    (please note that you seem to have a problem with your SSL certificate)
    and I can see that the image was reduced from 59.34 KB to 35.85 KB.
    Not only that but you can also see that currently on your site is the optimized image and not your original image as you suggest:

    So I believe that there is either a misunderstanding on your side or something/someone else deleted some of your files.

    I’d be glad to further look into this and help you figure out what is going on.
