I have a news aggregation feature on my website in which posts are (automatically) linked to their original sources using the combination of a .csv import plugin and Page Links To’s custom url target, but would like the “Open this link in a new tab” checkbox to be checked by default for posts that point to a custom URL.

Is there a way to make this plugin open custom urls in new tabs by default while still allowing posts that follow a normal WordPress url to open within the same tab?

  • i would be interested in hearing which csv plugin are you using to fill the custom url target. thanks

and should you not be able then to also import the value to the checkbox too?

I use WP CSV. Exporting a post to .csv using that plugin can be used to generate a template .csv with all the relevant fields WP uses for creating posts (including “hidden” ones added by plugins).

I use a Python script to populate the “cf__links_to” field (added by the Page Links To plugin) with the original url of my story.

As far as I can tell, the Page Links To plugin doesn’t seem to include a field for the new tab checkbox, unfortunately.

if there is a checkbox there is a field. ;))
thanks for the wp csv link.

Hi @nkerns. Simply install the ‘Better WordPress External Links’ plugin (or any equivalent) and set outbound links to be opened in a new tab.
