Make widget sidebar friendly

I’m assuming the widget is setup to use on the content part of the page, which seems odd to me. There should be options to utilize an excerpt (configurable between the automatic feature of wordpress or the manual excerpt) and option to show / hide a “Read more” link at bottom of it. The lack of this feature makes the widget seem rather silly for use in typical widgetized areas, such as a sidebar or footer.
