• This plugin has two main functions: Backup and Migration.

    BACKUP

The user interface is very intuitive and the options (and messages) are clear. Not much you can do wrong with it.

As for storage: the cloud options like Dropbox aren’t ready yet, but a backup is stored on your webspace and you can easily download it.

On one webspace I had to turn on an option to ignore the time out of the web server, but the support here in the forum is really helpful and after having activated the option it worked like a charme.

    MIGRATION

To move a WordPress installation from one webspace to another normally isn’t something to look forward to and there are lots of complicated tutorials and tools for the task, but this plugin takes away the pain and makes it fun.

After creating a backup you can copy a link to the ZIP file.

Then you go to the new webspace, create a WordPress installation, install the Backup & Migration plugin and paste the URL into the appropriate input field.

After having ticked a checkbox that this will overwrite your current WordPress installation reading “Yes I understand that. I am sound in mind”, you just sit back and enjoy your coffee while the plugin installs the backup ZIP via internet and automagically changes all the URLs where necessary.

    Done.

    CONCLUSION

I have been backing up and migrating several WP installations from webspace to webspace with this option in the last few weeks, and it works fine.

Even moving online WordPress to an installation on your machine with Local, XAMPP, MAMP etc is no problem. (Note: Back to the online webspace you cannot use the super easy URL migration and have to upload the ZIP manually instead, as the local domain cannot be resolved on the web.)

So really I love this plugin and I’m very much looking forward to all the features that appear to be in the pipeline.

The only drawback is that I don’t know what to call it. Backup? Backup & Migrate? BackupBliss? Several names for this plugin pop up around the web, but I guess it’s still new and that will settle itself with time.

    UPDATE 01/2022
I have been using Backup Migration now for some months and I mainly use it for migrating sites, BUT I do find myself describing problems in the support forum more than I would like to.

Having said that the support is good and everything has been solved.
