  • PLEASE HELP….this plug in crashed my website…. https://www.khandroling.com. I cannot find the plugin in my list of plugins to deactivate and delete it. I have WP 4.2.2. It said it was compatible. Please tell me how to fix it.

    Hi Ven,

It seems your website is working again. Is that correct? It seemed that your server configuration did something weird with the compression.

In our next version we’ll add a check option, so make sure you don’t bring the whole website down! Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I previewed my site prior to enabling gzip and everything looks good in dashboard when logged in. Once enabled I logged out and tried to view site, it just tries to download an application when you put my domain name in chrome or safari (so far that’s all I’ve checked). When running my site with google page insights and gtmetrix I am getting errors for application x-gzip. I’m very frustrated but before leaving a review, I’m hoping you can help me resolve this issue and get the plugin working so we are both happy. I have used this plugin on another site with no issues.

    https://isite.host is the url

Update: My site is now live again after disabling and deleting plugin however I have deleted cache and I’m still having issues with pingdom, page speed insights and gtmetrix. Is there something else I have to do to revert back to before downloading plugin? I do not have a recent backup which is stupid on my part. Any advice will be much appreciated.

    Hi mynvbox,

Sorry to hear that your experiencing problems.

It could be that you could have to resave your perma links in the WordPress settings menu.

    Eric

Thanks for getting in touch with me so quickly. It seems like it is unstable. I thought it was working but every other time I clear history, and cache it’s hit or miss on whether it opens the site or downloads the application file when entering url. Still can’t get any performance site to pull it up without connection error. Can you tell me if the site opened for you. I’m hesitant to change permalink structure.

    Hi!

The site works for me, it loads fine and fast. For the perma links, you don’t have to change it, just hit the save button. That should reset your htacces file.

Yes I’m not having any issues with the mobile version for some reason. It’s only on desktop browsers. It’s strange. I saved my permalink structure. Reinstalled my theme. Cleared my browser history. Deleted Cache. Deactivated Plugins. Still no luck. When I put url in firefox, chrome or safari, it just wants to download an application file. I’m stumped. Here is the error on gtmetrix: Analysis Error

The URL did not appear to be an HTML page (invalid Content-Type: application/x-gzip)

GTmetrix only analyzes HTML pages and could not confirm that the URL is a HTML page.

Please see our FAQ on how to fix this error.

on pingdom it just gives me a connection error. On Page speed insights, it gives me a 78 for mobile but “an error occurred” on desktop version.

Strange! Did you remove the plug-in?

If possible could you post to content of the. Htaccess file?

Do you have any other cache plugins enabled?

Yes I did remove the plugin via ftp. I think I’m ok and I definitely appreciate the solid support. I disabled wp-super cache and the issues went away. It’s weird that it only started after installing gzip plugin but I’ll continue to work on it in the morning. Thanks again for your ideas and help in getting me back on track!

Good to hear that the site is up again. Probably an conflict between our plugin and super-cache. I think we’ll add a warning in the new version.
