I’ve been using this for over a year now and I am delighted at the functionality and support.

I stumped upon it through adverts in the Autoptimize back end.

The three main optimisation quality settings are well thought out. The lossy option I found great for almost all sites. The savings are on par with tinypng which I used previously. They also have their own “glossy” setting which good enough for a photography site. There is another lossless format that I haven’t used yet.

All the optimisations are done through the plugin author’s servers so there is very little demand on your own, this is great for shared hosting. You get 100 free credits a month.

If you are buying credits, you not charged if an image is optimised by less than 5%. I think this is fair. I buy the never expire credits as opposed to monthly.

I think the pricing is good considering the support and that the images use the author’s servers, and love that it is not tied to a domain like many licences.

One thing I really like is that this plugin also creates webp images alongside your optimised images if needed, and no credits are used for this. From the GUI I would like to be able to just select to optimise as webp only, I’d be happy to use credits for this.

The only problem I had was quickly troubleshooted by their support (A firewall rule I created in Cloudflare blocked their optimisation servers).

All in all really impressed with everything.

    Hi,
thanks for taking the time to review our plugin! ??

Do you have maybe a use case for this “From the GUI I would like to be able to just select to optimise as webp only, I’d be happy to use credits for this.”?
We’d like to better understand when would this be needed before consider adding such a feature ??

    Thank you for your support,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

In my case I had previously optimised images using other services and plugins before discovering ShortPixel, I did not want to re-optimise all the old jpgs on all my sites only add webp support.

I understood your plugin was not marketed solely for webp so it wasn’t a dissapointment, but I think it would be useful for people moving over, especially those with bigger sites or multiple sites.

    Cheers.
