I really like the sidebar on the desktop, but when viewing on a mobile device, the sidebar stacks on top of the menu. Customers will have to click on the section they want and then know to scroll down to view the choices. Is it possible to either [preferably] make the sidebar mobile friendly (show up on the side and not stacked on top) or to have a different menu layout on mobile?

    Hello feliu,

Could you go to Settings > Basic > Set Sidebar Click Action to Scroll and see if that makes a difference? Does the page scroll to the respective section when you click on a section in the sidebar?

Having the sidebar show up on the side on a small phone screen wouldn’t really make sense. There isn’t enough room to fit both the sidebar and the menu. Perhaps we can explore – for an update at some point in the future – making the sidebar collapsible for small screens.

I set the click action to scroll however nothing happens (no scrolling to the section). I am not sure if there is another setting I need to tweak.

I understand that the sidebar on a mobile phone may not make sense, but manually scrolling through would be tedious for the customer. Do you have any examples or best practices of other users for creating a menu that works well on both desktop and mobile? Is there a way to have two different layouts…one for desktop/tablet and one for mobile?

As a quick follow-up, is any of this fixed with the premium version? I am willing to upgrade, however I don’t want to upgrade if I don’t think I can get the mobile issue figured out.

    Hello feliu,

If the page does not scroll to the respective section when you click on a section in the sidebar, it could be that your theme is conflicting with the plugin. As a test, could you switch to WordPress’s default Twenty Twenty theme and see if that makes a?difference?

Alternatively, you can use the Only Selected option for the sidebar. This option will only display the selected section. You can check out this option on our demo menu page here: https://www.fivestarplugins.com/five-star-restaurant-menu-demo/

Notice that if you resize the window to a width of 568px or less, the sidebar relocates to the top, and if you were to select a menu section, the selected section appears.

This has nothing to do with the free vs. premium version. That being said, please note that the www.ads-software.com forums are meant for questions about the free version of this software. As such, if you have any questions about the premium version, please contact us directly by email or visit our website (https://www.fivestarplugins.com/), and we’ll be happy to help.
