Making users not able to upload to parent album

I’m using the photo upload widget, and the dropdown box shows my parent albums, which they should not be able to upload to since I have set the owner to myself. They cannot upload to the parent albums from the upload link on the gallery page, but they can from the upload widget. How can I fix this?
