• Hi. I developed a wordpress website some time ago and now I need to do some changes. In the meantime I began using MAMP Pro 2.2 and wanted to use it to host the website locally, make the changes and then upload the final version again.

When I first used MAMP Pro I created a clean install for a wordpress website, let’s call it web-a.com, and it worked fine. Now, when I downloaded the files from the website I need to change, web-b.com, I ran into some problems. I set up the local version as web-b.dev and when I access it on the browser, just typing https://web-b.dev it displays the correct page. However, when I try to connect to https://web-b.dev/wp-admin, it redirects to the live version and I have no idea why. I’ve scoured the forums for answers and even tried adapting from what info I found, but nothing.

I’m using MAMP Pro 2.2, OSX 10.9 and wordpress 3.8. Can anyone give me a hint on this? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thanks.

  • Sounds like you need to run a search and replace on the database to replace all of the old URLs with the new ones. The script below is great for doing this:

    Hello WP Sirs,

I guess I’m having a similar problem: I used to build 2 websites locally with MAMP 1.0, and now I upgraded to MAMP 2.2.

Now the problem is: when I write on the browser :

    localhost:8888/mywebsitefolder/wp-admin

I don’t get anymore the “username” & “password” log in page, BUT it brings me again the installation page, with these:

Site Title / Username (“User(s) already exists”) / Your E-mail / Privacy fields.

If I digit onto the “Set Title” the old website name, I get this warning:

    “Please provide a valid username.”

So, I don’t know how to get back to the log in page of my website anymore !
    What should I do ?

    Thank You, Best regards.

Thank you Mark, I’ll try the script. But that means that I’ll have to change everything back again when I upload the live version, right?

Finfab, I’m sorry, I can’t help you, but just to make sure perhaps you could check the database info on wp-config.php, to make sure everything is correct.
