• Hi All, I’m running a few local installs through MAMP Pro. I’m able to connect and view sites just fine via mobile, using the MAMP Viewer app.

The problem occurs when I change the homepage setting from “latest posts” to “static page”. I get a “not able to load the requested page” error. If I change it back to the default setting, everything works again. This occurs on all the local sites I’m hosting.

The problem DOES NOT occur on the machine hosting the sites. Just the mobile device accessing via MAMP Viewer.

Any ideas what is causing this and how to fix?
    Any help is appreciated!

MAMP Pro is a commercial product.

As you use a commercial product and need support, please use their official support channel. We feel they are best equipped to support their products.

Kinda figured that would be the response… Totally understand. I tried searching their site before looking here, but no luck. I also have a feeling that would be the response from the MAMP folks as well, if I asked them.

    I guess I’m just trying to wrap my head around what’s happening on the WP end that could help me in digging up a solution. Lets take MAMP out of the equation for a second;

If I’m able to establish a local connection (through whatever means),
then after I’ve made the homepage change via the WP dashboard, that connection is broken, what could be some possible things to look for? Am I correct in thinking that the change is confined to one entry in the database, that’s then called by wp=settings?

    1. Can you access that page when it’s not assigned as the home page?

    2. After making the change to set the page as the static home page, does it show “front” or “home” when you look at it from pages->all pages on the dashboard?

But since you purchased the Pro version, they should provide you with support. Localhost stuff is always squirrely.

If I leave it as the default “latest posts” setting, I can load the site and access other pages, including the page I would eventually set as the static homepage.

After I make the change, it’s noted as “Front Page” in the dashboard.

I’ll contact the MAMP folks if I can’t get it sorted.

    Thanks Steve!

@sideshow01, Did you ever sort this issue or get a reply from MAMP/Appsolute?
Am having exactly the same issue. This happened in MAMP Pro 3 if using XIP to view the site on another device. Asked MAMP about it 2 years ago, got told it’s a WordPress issue.

I’ve contacted MAMP again, awaiting a response.

I didn’t… Tech support did get back to me and their response was to empty the log files, restart the servers and try accessing again. Then send them the log files. It was around that time that I got turned on to GhostLab. The demo worked right out of the box, so I decided that cost of the paid version was a better deal than the time and frustration of fixing the MAMP issue.

Report back if you make any progress. I wouldn’t mind getting it sorted as well, once I have a little breathing room.

    Good luck!

FYI, any localhost stuff I do on my Mac I do through the free “Local by Flywheel“.

I’ve been chatting with MAMP support over the past week, sending logs, altering settings etc but with no joy. The support person I’ve been dealing with has finally managed to replicate the issue so bug report has been submitted.
Apparently if support can’t replicate the issue then they can’t submit a bug report.

Another bit of advice I was give via MAMP support was don’t use .local, .localhost or .dev host names.

If I hear anything else I’ll report back.
