Been having a problem updating galleries.

When I am signed in as admin, I can go to Manage Galleries and delete photos, add photos, and rearrange photos with no problem. Everything looks in order. When I go to the page linked to the gallery (while still logged in as admin) it looks just as I expect it to look.

Here’s the problem… if I sign out and look at the page as a regular viewer would, the changes are not showing up. The deleted images still show as blank holing spots. The newly added images don’t show. And the reorganization of images does not occur.

    See https://www.edvatza.com/recents/

When it happened the last time, I had to go in and delete the entire gallery and rebuild it anew to get it looking like I want. I don’t want to have to do that every time I make a change.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    This is so freakin’ weird.

As described above if I go to the “Recent Photos” page as a non-admin, page 1 (of two) comes up and shows blanks with file numbers for the photos I deleted and the changes I made to the order of images are not made.

BUT click on Page 2 and suddenly Page 2 is now correct. You will see images on Page 2 that were just on Page 1 because I changed the order. Go back to Page 1 and the new images and new/correct order are all there.

Then go up to the menu and click on Recent Photos and we are right back where we started.

    Freakin’ weird!

So with no response, I did the only thing left to do. I deleted the gallery and the page linked to the gallery. And I rebuilt the gallery and page link anew. A pain in the ass I might add.

Things still are not 100% correct. Now when I access the website as a non-admin and click on Recent Photos, everything appears to be correct. The new photos are added, the old photos are deleted and the order is corrected.

However, if I leave the Recent Photos page and return, the page reverts back to old, now deleted version showing wrong order, deleted photos as empty blocks with the file number and no new images.

Can someone please help here?!?!?!? I been screwing with this thing for over 24 hours trying to make what should be a simple change.

This is not a duplicate post. It is a separate question in an effort to solve my problem on my own. It would seem a simple question that deserves a simple answer. To repeat…

I downloaded the latest version of NexGen Gallery. Does it install the update automatically as I cannot find any installer in everything that was downloaded?

    If yes, respond yes.
If no, please tell me where to locate the installer so I can complete the installation.

    Thank you.

@edvatza – You appear to be using a Multisite installation (based on the image URL structure) and as such you will most likely need to have the multisite administrator (if that is not yourself) update NextGEN Gallery from the Network Plugins page.

Although you are using an older version of NextGEN Gallery I cannot see that being the direct cause of the issues you are seeing. Have there been any modifications to the Multisite installation that directly affect how NextGEN Gallery works, especially in relation to where and what gallery is used for storage and maintenance of the images?

    Thanks!

    Thanks, Cais.

I passed your response on to my son-in-law who is co-admin on my website. I am but a lowly photographer. He is IT Director for the Web Team at Wharton Research Data Services at U of Pennsylvania. He’s my tech guru. Hopefully together we can get this thing resolved.

Over the past 24 hours or so, I have gotten progressively closer to solving the problem but just when I think I beat it, it rears its head again.

@photocrati — Here is an update on the issue that I am having.

I will try to summarize the current situation in as few words as possible. I made changes to a NextGen gallery (Recent Photos) adding new photos, deleting older photos, and reordering the images. All the changes went through without issue and when I visit the linked page all the changes are visible.

But when I log out and visit the site as an outside visitor things get wonky. I started to test different hypotheses and this is what I discovered. Hopefully it can lead to a solution.

If you access the website https://www.edvatza.com, the Welcome/Home page comes up as it should. If you then click on Recent Photos in the menu, everything comes up just fine. NOW… if you click on another page (say Artist Statement or a gallery like Portraits) that page comes up just fine as well.

BUT if you then click to go back to Recent Photos, all you get on the Recent Photos page is a series of blank spaces with file number of the deleted images. Same thing if you go to another page and back again to Recent Photos. Exactly the same.

EXCEPT when you return to the Welcome/Home page. Then if you click on Recent Photos from there, all is well again.

The issue seems to be between the gallery and pages for all pages except the Welcome/Home page.

    Make any sense?

@edvatza – I am seeing the issues on the site and I believe they may be related to caching (I did not notice it was there previously), but it could also be from a combination of plugins.

As a Multisite it is a bit more complex to troubleshoot, but have you (read: your son-in-law) tried deactivating all of your plugins (at the Network level), clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN plugin?

If this fixes the problem then it was likely one of the deactivated plugins that was causing an issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating and in most cases it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
