Hello. I have daily backups scheduled for a site I’m working on – thank God! While updating plugins, I got a fatal error message. Absolutely no access to website. Same cryptic message also appears when I try to login to the admin panel. So I think i’ll need to restore an earlier backup the manual way. I’m a relative newbie to WordPress and have never done a manual backup before; can you refer me to some step by step guidance as to how to do this. I was able to find the general instructions in an earlier support forum, however I need more specific information, if possible. For example, where exactly do I copy the unzipped files? And how exactly do I run the SSL through phpMyAdmin (I’m not even sure what that means).

Thanks so much. By the way, my website is https://www.ethiopianfamilyfund.org.

    Thanks so much.

    Hi Kim,

It’s simplest to simply wipe your WordPress install, and install a new one, and install UpdraftPlus – and then restore the backup through UpdraftPlus (upload your backup into the “Existing Backups” tab on the UpdraftPlus settings page). There is a manual way too, but it’s more complex: updraftplus.com/faqs/i-want-to-restore-but-have-either-cannot-or-have-failed-to-do-so-from-the-wp-admin-console/

    Best wishes,
    David
