This was posted earlier by @bobwebb here https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/add-notification-trigger/ But I’d like to expand as I came here looking for something similar.

We are using your plugin for custom emails to send to users as more of a “general notification”. Some could use it for a newsletter type of function.

I oversee a large number of “events” type of sites where we have many notifications setup to send out ranging from “Session Starting Soon” to custom welcome emails. They all have many variables and custom fields, your plugin offers the most and easiest way to ‘customize’ emails.

I’d love to have a simple “Send Now” type of control, instead of sending the email from an external ‘trigger’.

Better yet? Include a “schedule” feature to include future date/time of a notification to go out.

Currently as a work-around, we have these emails set to send “When Post is Updated” and then we have a generic blog post that we “update” whenever we want to send out an email. But it’s clunky, doesn’t make much sense to other users, and has caused issues if the admin/editor updates the post multiple times w/o realizing the consequences.

This proposed “manual trigger” functionality would add more of a “Email Users” type of functionality, aka “newsletter”. Honestly, I’d pay for it, so could see this as one of your paid add-ons. (I already use your “Role Based” add-on which has been great)

    Hi @blakemiller,
    Thanks for your message.

Unfortuantely, this isn’t something that BNFW would do well. This functionality is usually more suited to an automated workflow in an email marketing solution, such as Mailchimp or ConverKit.

Thanks for responding. I wasn’t looking for anything similar to Mailchimp or Convertkit. We already use Mailchimp for email newsletter / marketing and funnel types of applications. My use of the word “newsletter” was not a good analogy.

We’re already using BNFW for dozens of different notifications and scenarios and it’s worked great of all the different options. We’ve tested and used at least 3 others including FluentCRM, “Mass Email to Users” and “Email Users” plugins. Yours is the best and works well.

I’m just looking for an alternate ‘trigger’ mechanism – a manual one that we can send directly and not rely on any external trigger.

    Thanks

    Hi @blakemiller,
    I appreciate that.

Unfortunately, BNFW doesn’t offer that functionality. The comparison I made to Mailchimp or ConverKit is that their automations and ‘send now’ type functionality is very good and if you tie it into your WP site, you can push and pull custom data to each user’s profile in order to send exactly what you want, when you want – whether this be immediately or triggered off of something else. I think their solutions would be better for you but that’s based on the information I have above.

    Sorry I can’t help further.
