Manually manipulating WP database

I have archives of old raw text that I would like to port into wordpress. I have searched on google a bit but can’t really come up with anything so here goes.

Basically I need some guidance on how to post this information to the wordpress database into specific categories, preferably using command line syntax. I have some programming experience so writing a script to accomplish this shouldn’t be a problem.

I just need some feedback or to point me to somewhere that details the WP database hierarchy and ideally how to input into it using mysqladmin or something to that extent.
