    Hey there,
I have installed EUM and I am wondering what is the difference between Manual Update and Disable Auto Updates.

What I want is, that EUM only looks for updates but does not install them.

    Any hints are welcome

    Thanks in advance
    Sven

  • Hi Sven,

    Apologies for the delay

“Manually update” and “Disable auto updates” are basically the same, you can see what plugins and/or themes that have new updates available, you can also perform manual update. But, it has one difference which differs them in the way automatic updates is prevented. When you choose “Disable auto updates”, you make a clear statement that you really don’t want any auto-updates to happen on your website, and you don’t want other plugins to override the setting, but when you set “Manually update” it will allow other plugins to easily override your setting, as a result there’s a chance that auto-updates might happen on your site because another plugin does that for you. If you hover your mouse to the tooltip icon on the “Manually update” button you can see a brief explanation about what it does, as shown in the image below: (actually we plan to remove “Disable auto updates” option for Plugins and Themes in our future releases of EUM, and provide only “Manually update” option but with the same characteristics as the “Disable auto updates”)

So, I think if you want EUM to look only for updates and don’t want them to be installed automatically, then I recommend that you set “Manually update” for WP Core, “Disable auto updates” for Plugins and Themes and “Manually update” for Translations

    Thanks
    Anthon
