Hello. I serve as admin for a non-profit. The site supports submission of prayer requests by way of the “comment” feature of WordPress. One article’s comments are the posted prayer requests. The site’s theme is actually a child theme of TwentyTen.

I just now updated the plugins and themes, and updated the core WP files to version 5.7.2.

Upon visiting the public frontend of the site, about 7 years worth of comments, posted one at a time by personal individuals, are now only displayed generically as “pingbacks” and only the person’s name is shown, not the content of their comment.

Interestingly, all comments older than a certain date seem to still be displayed properly, although I cannot think of any way in which those older comments differ in how they were submitted.

Can anyone tell me any clues as to how that might have happened and how I can fix it? Thank you.

UPDATE: Whenever I go into “Customize” and attempt a “Live Preview” of the *parent* theme of TwentyTen, the comments all display properly. The child theme displayed the comments properly prior to the updates, yet now doesn’t. It seems that, somehow, something changed that affects the performance of the child theme.

So, here’s my current plan of action. I will rebuild the child theme. More soon.

UPDATE: rebuilding the child theme fixed it. Problem solved.
