    Hi,

I’d like to work with the Plugin “Out of the Block: OpenStreetMap”. My “Home” page is based on the template “Front Page” which I adepted accordingly my needs. That means my “Home” page is empty. I’m only editing the template “Front Page” in which I put the Map in a new group. But: The map shows in the editor but not in the preview.
The Map though works well in my static test page which is based on the template “Blank”.
Any ideas how to fix that?

    Greetings,
    Maria

    Hi Maria,

sorry for the delay, just a crazy time on my end.

Did you try to choose that template in the Templates Section when you navigate to the Pages > Home? Can you please make screenshots for me to be able to check it more?

    Thanks,
    Ana

    Hi Ana,

    never mind, it’s Easter.

I don’t use the Template “Home” for my Home Page. Instead I’m using the Template “Front Page” as my Home Page. And in this “Front Page” the map is not showing up.

If you need further information or a link to my blog which is still “work in progress”, please tell me.

    Hi Maria,

I just tested this plugin with the default theme and Bricksy too and somehow the map is showing but as an empty space. Not sure if this is block related or plugin related issue. I added it as a block on the front page and also tried to add it on the default WordPress theme and it’s the same problem.
If you can, please send me a link to your website so I can check it more as this way it’s hard to say.

    All the best,
    Ana

    Hi Ana,

    thanks for checking.
Yes, that’s right, the map is showing as an empty space in the “Front Page”:

What’s strange is that in my “Blank” test page it’s displayed.

    Hi Maria,

that’s strange, I tested it with different themes and templates but always got empty space. Maybe you can contact the plugin author to ask about it.

    All the best,
    Ana

    Hi Ana,

    ta-ta-tam ;-).
I fiddled around and put the map in my “Home” Page as well, and voilà, it works now!
It has to be double-placed, what is really odd:
I have to put the Map into the “Home” Page (just to be there) as well as into the Template “Front Page”, in that one all the editing and settings of the map is done.

To me it seems to be only a work-around, I will also report to the plugin developer which, unfortunately, has not made a peep so far… So, I don’t know yet if it’s a bug with blocks and templates.

    Greetings,
    Maria

    Update:
I found out that the map is showing only in pages which when I select “Default Template” or “Blank” Template. All the other ones (“About Page”, “Team Page” and so on don’t show the Map.
Hope this helps for further investigation…?

    Hi Maria,

thank you :). I’ll try to explain it the best possible. If you are opening a page and using a default or blank template it will take the content you add inside the editor. Front, Team templates are predefined templates, which means they have the content inside the template and if you want to add or change it you’ll need to do this inside the template. This is how it works. I would suggest using block patterns and pages for creating your page content and layouts and not messing a lot with the templates.

    Hope this helps a bit,
    Ana

    Hi Ana,

yes, this helps me a lot!
Thanks for explaining how to use the templates and how to use the patterns.
Well, I think I totally misunderstood this “template”-stuff! – I concentrated on this too much.
First step, I will kind of “reset” everything, delete all my pages and clear all templates and start again from the beginning (as you are also describing in your documentation).

    Hi Ana,

well, I put this up again because this “Map is not displayed in the front-end”-issue is not resolved up to now and there is a second issue with a different Map plugin as well.
I’m in contact with the Plugins-Authors and I’d like you as the Themes-Authors to be involved in order to maybe getting one of those maps running soon. I mean, I have a TRAVEL Blog and up to now I could not find a working OSM for my Blog Posts Overview Page. Which is the (only) page where a map makes sense to me.

In fact there are 2 issues with two different OSM-Plugins (OOTB OSM and Leaflet Map):
Both have problems with white space in a different way:
    1) OOTB OSM shows white space instead of the Map in the front-end
    2) Leaflet Map shows white space below the Map in the front-end

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/huge-white-space-below-my-map-on-the-blog-posts-overview-page/

I’d really appreciate you to have a look on both of them.

    Thanks for now.

    Update:
Finally, I succeeded with Leaflet Map on my Blog Posts (Template) Page and abandoned the OOTB OSM Plugin.
    No further action necessary.
    Sorry for my impatience…

    Greetings,
    Maria
