Hi David, this looks like a very comprehensive and useful plugin. I would like to try it out on a project where I need to manage over 300+ pdfs. There is another plugin I have that I want to be able to use your bulk edit media feature with. There is an existing field called file_list_pro_tags enabled when I turn the plugin on.

My question: how do I bulk edit the file_list_pro_tag field? Do I need to somehow map to an att cat?

    Jeffrey,

Thanks for your interest and for this question. I’m happy to look into it, but I need a bit more information. Can you tell me the name of the other plugin? Is file_list_pro_tags a custom field, a taxonomy or something else? What kind of “bulk edit” do you want to do on this field?

Generally, the MLA Bulk Edit action is useful for modifying taxonomy terms associated with multiple media objects, and for changing the parent ID and author. There aren’t any other edits that make sense for multiple objects.

If file_list_pro_tags is a taxonomy, you can use the Taxonomy Support section of the Settings/General page to add the taxonomy to your Bulk Edit area.

If file_list_pro_tags is a custom field, you can use the Custom Fields and IPTC/EXIF (for images) tabs on the Settings screen to define rules for mapping data from your objects to this field.

If I can understand more specifically what you’re trying to do I can give you more help.

Wow, thanks for the quick response! The plugin I’m using is called File List Pro. I’m not sure if it’s a taxonomy or custom field. When I edit a media object there is a File List Pro Tags box that says “Enter a list of tags separated by commas.” file_list_pro_tags also shows up under the Custom Fields drop-down menu. The problem is I have to open up each media item to enter the tags.

Ideally I would like the ability to add bulk-edit tags to this field.

Here is a response from the other plugin developer:

    Hello Jeff,

I think you’re close to having a solution – that’s a great plugin. I think you need to speak to the author of that plugin to get to the final step on this – If the Att. tag was available in the second column of the mapping section it should work perfectly…

    Thanks,
    James

    Jeffrey,

I found File List Pro at the PHOTO VIDE and codecanyon websites and looked over the documentation there. Unless I can get a copy of the plugin for testing (it’s not free) that’s all I have access to.

It looks like file_list_pro_tags might be a custom taxonomy. If that’s true, you can add it to the MLA Bulk Edit area. Check the Taxonomy Support section of the Settings/General page; if file_list_pro_tags appears there you’re all set. MLA will use any custom taxonomy defined in your site; the ATT. Tags taxonomy is provided as a conenience; it’s not special in any way.

I’m not sure what James means by “the second column of the mapping section” – I didn’t see that in the documentation. I’m not sure what you mean by the “Custom Fields drop-down menu” – can you tell me where this appears?

Sorry for the back-and-forth; thanks for your patience.

Do you know of a way I can send you a screenshot?

The best way to proceed would be to send me your e-mail address and I will send you an address you can use to e-mail me your screenshot. Go to the “Contact Us” page at our web site:

    Fair Trade Judaica/Contact Us

Have you installed the Media Library Assistant? If so, can you send a screenshot of the MLA Settings page, General tab?

    Jeff,

Thanks for sending the screenshots and for our follow-up communications by e-mail. My communications with the File List Pro plugin author were also productive; he was very responsive and helpful.

I’m happy that the interim patch I sent you was able to help with your immediate task. I am planning to develop a more general solution, i.e., an ability to add custom fields to the quick edit and bulk edit areas as well as the Media/Assistant table listing, to a future release.

I’m going to mark this issue as resolved. Let me know if there’s more work to do in this area.

I have just released version 1.13, which adds the ability to add custom fields to the Media/Assistant submenu as sortable, searchable columns. It also adds the ability to add any custom field to the quick edit and bulk edit areas.

Please let me know if you have any issues with this feature, questions or further suggestions. Thanks again for your suggestion, your patience and for using the plugin.
