• Hi there,

I have a multisite setup on an IP address (until we’re ready to go live, at which point, my domain will just point to the IP address). This meant I had to have a subdirectory install setup.

    I currently have 4 sites: https://IPAddress/, https://IPAddress/site2, https://IPAddress/site3 and https://IPAddress/site4.

IPAddress/site3 is mapped to a domain (site3domain.com) and working great! But I’d like to have IPAddress/site4 mapped to subdomain.site3domain.com.

Is this possible? (Hopefully the above set up even makes sense).

Thanks for any direction you can provide.

    Yes, you can map subdomains.

As a note of caution, switch a multisite install from an IP address to a domain is considerably more complicated than doing it with single site (non-multisite) WP installs.

    Thanks Ron,

I thought I had it mapped correctly, but for some reason the redirect is sending me to the wp-login page and not the site itself. Any ideas as to what I’m going wrong?

    Thanks again.

Also, regarding the note about IP addresses– if the IP address will remain the same (the plan was to just point the root domain to that IP address when we’re ready) is that still pretty complicated?

You cannot map a domain to the main site. If the main site is an IP address then when you point the domain to the install it will redirect to the IP address.
