Background: I was told through my web hosting provider that I had to manually install WordPress in order to update it. Long story short – My blog was gone.

I’m trying to put everything back together, but I’m having problems with a margin appearing at the top of my blog. I’ve checked margins in my CSS but can’t find anything.

I also have errors showing up below the comment section on posts.

And only 1 post is appearing on the first page, but I have the settings set to 5.

    Please help! https://blog.thesingingsparrow.com/

  • You provider is wrong. You do not re-install WordPress to update it. You use the 1-click auto-upgrade or upgrade manually.

I’ve checked margins in my CSS but can’t find anything.

Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of work.

I also have errors showing up below the comment section on posts.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

And only 1 post is appearing on the first page

And how many are showing as published in your Admin area?

The problem was that I had used my providers click-and-build to install it in the first place and then was told that it doesn’t allow updates and that I would have to re-install it manually.

I did delete a plugin that was causing the errors and that also solved the problem with only one post appearing. And now I’m about to try to look for what is causing the margin using the firebug you recommended.

    Thanks for your help!

It looks fine in Firefox and IE. It seems to be in Chrome that the margin is added.

I just realized it was a space for the wordpress header since I was logged in through Chrome. When I log out it’s fine.
