    Hi Guys,
I am wondering if anyone is doing this with this plugin:
    – Integrating Marketpress with Buddypress
    – Allowing each buddypress user to upload (from fronted) digital products and sell them
    – Products from user stores are aggregated and are searchable on the main site store

I know Marketpress states “compatible with buddypress and multisite.” However, how does that work in practice. Please, if anyone has achieved this or has tried, please get back to me.
    Thanks ??
    Kristina

  • Hi @kristina,

Thanks for posting this here! And incidentally, this has somewhat been looked into through our premium service, though with a focus on integrating the Multisite, multi-vendor functionality with BuddyPress.

Currently, the plugin’s undergoing a major update so that won’t be looked at right now, but I suspect once the update’s out, there will be some movement with this. It’s something I’d really love to see, myself (I do love BuddyPress).

We’re hoping to get that update out asap, no ETA just yet though. Hope this helps! ??

    Cheers, David

Hi Community, no one has any feedback on my Etsy-like quest? Below is a response from the developers of Marketpress. Let me know if anyone has had experience with any of these plugins. Obviously the competition is Easy Digital Downloads, WP E-commerce and Woo Commerce.

    Hi Kristina ,

Thanks for your question! We don’t yet have specific plans for integration with BuddyPress as you’ve described, though that’s always a key concern of ours and once we’ve got our forthcoming update for MarketPress out (there’s a huge update in development right now), I’m sure we’ll be looking into that.

We’ve actually had a few members request integration as you’ve described. I think everyone who uses BuddyPress and MarketPress both would naturally want to see that sort of integration.

There are currently a couple front-end posting solutions built for MarketPress, the main one I’ve seen referenced here:
    https://www.corlax.com/projects/marketpress-frontend/

While it’s not integrated with BuddyPress it can certainly help to simplify the posting experience.

For search features though, I was wondering if you’ve seen this post in our forums?
    https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/freebie-marketpress-product-search-widget-plugin#post-731020

Besides the third party search widget mentioned there, there’s another option mentioned using our Post Indexer plugin along with our Global Search plugin.

Would something like that maybe work for you?

Any questions on all this, please feel free to ask. I’ll be happy to help! ??

Wow, David, we posted at the same time. Thanks for the response. Yeah, people have been asking for this for a few years. The idea with BuddyPress is that it is a social network already, so just needs a “Sell” button integrated into the profiles. Also, obviously to give the ability to users to post from fronted, is important. I am not going to train my users on how to use the backend, that would be crazy. Anyway, hope you guys will come up with something soon. Thanks again for the reply.

BTW, what is the difficulty from the developer point of view to integrate BuddyPress into this type of plug-in. BuddyPress is notorious for being difficult, but have you guys run into some specific problems that I should know about (in case I try to modify an integration).

Easy Digital Downloads offers a Frontend Submissions plugin which would allow your existing BuddyPress users to apply (or instantly become) vendors and do frontend product submissions (with or without review). You might want to look into that option

Yep, already have. That is true. Does Frontend Submissions actually integrate into BuddyPress or does it run parallel to BuddyPress. Thank you, Chriscct7, btw.

Parallel. You’re not going to find anything out of the box that directly integrates with it. Its just too small of a niche market for it to be profitable for anyone to make something that does that. You’d probably have to get it custom developed, and beware, a system like the one you’re describing is a heck of alot of work to make.

I guess I have to dive deeper into the development issue. I just don’t understand if we have buddy press and we have a marketplace (like marketpress), why is it an issue to add an “upload” button to the buddy press profile and tether the market press profile to the buddy press profile. Alternatively, (since I couldn’t care less about buddy press) to beef up the marketpress profile to include pic, bio, job history etc.

    Hi @kristina,

We do hear ya, and we also specialize in BuddyPress development as well and typically seek to integrate with it, as we have so many members utilizing it.

I can’t guarantee anything but once the forthcoming MarketPress update is out, I do think we’ll be having a good look back at BuddyPress integration.

The more we hear from users about this, the more likely it’ll get added, so thanks for mentioning this. Hope to hear more from others here as well!

    Cheers!

    Hi David,
Any new developments of my questions above? Have you guys done anything new on integrating BuddyPress and marketpress?
    Thanks,
    Kristina

The new Marketpress is nearly out!

Is Buddypress + Marketpress social integration now on the cards?
