I am wondering if it’s possible, either by plugin or by some trick such as Javascript, to mark all external links either by a different CSS styling or some other convention. My website is https://www.bananasontoast.org/ and it would be cool if any link that wasn’t *.bananasontoast.org* was marked in some way. If anyone knows how I can achieve this it would be much appreciated.

  • This plugin might do it for you. It identifies external links and adds a class to them, which you can style in your stylesheet. Using before and/or after rules ( CSS3 ) you may even insert a small icon to hint that this is an external link.

I use the Links Indication plug-in and it works perfectly. It offers more options than just external links, like enabling you to identify a link to anywhere with a custom style, for example a link to wikipedia could use a special icon etc. It’s all done through the options panel, so it’s very easy and straight forward.

    Good luck,
    Michael.

Thanks to both of you for your replies, both links were very helpful. I must admit that the Link Indication Plugin really took it over the top for me, I’ll be implementing it right away!
