• Hi,
I host a page for our local Lions Club on my private domain, using a subdomain.
The Lions club has a completely separate domain registered and this is linked to my subdomain. When you get on the page, using the Lions Club link, you see my subdomain in the browser. I tried several attempts to mask this and to show the Lion’s domain all time.
So you click on lionslink.com and get to sub.mydomain.net/wp but I want to show in the browser bar lionslink.com at all time. Even other pages or post links should not be shown in the browser bar.
I tried it in the general settings of WP, no effect. I tried .htaccess changes but did not work. And I have not found a plugin doing this either.
Any ideas how to get this working?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,

As far as I know, there’s no option to “trick” the browser and display a different URL. As long as you have the website on the subdomain, this is the link that will be displayed. I don’t think that this is something related to WordPress since this is the way that browsers work. They always display the link of the page that is displayed.

If you want to move everything from subdomain to main domain, here’s a link where you can find some more details: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress

You can create a new network on your multisite installation. So it becomes multiple networks, wordpress supports this and the lionslink.com can be the Domain name used for the base site url of the new network. Then it will work for you, the benefit also would be that the lionslink.com would have the future options of having its own subsites. Have a look at https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-multi-network/

It will make it much eaiser to manage a multi-network installation.
