• I am needing to rebuild a site and I need to get all the images back up to the media folder. I realize that you can not just upload the images and expect WP to see them but the problem I am having re-uploading them is that WP makes several versions of the same image so I really have 4 times the images than I need and I do not want to upload all the sizes from the media folder from the original site as that will produce 4 times again as many images than are needed. I just want to upload the original sizes. Please don’t tell me I have to delete all the wp created images sizes before I upload the originals. There are hundreds.

    Many thanks,
    Houston

  • Hi htown,

Have you thought about using the WordPress export tool? Go to Tools > Export, this should give you the option to export various content, including the option to only move your media. This will generate an XML file, that you can then take to your new site – Tools > Import > WordPress – and upload the XML.

This should then cause WordPress to pull all the images from the old site and process them as per your existing site.

    Hope that helps,
