• I don’t know whether I’m doing something wrong or whether it’s to do with the way WordPress works or what, but I’m getting very confused and hoping someone can offer advice.

Previously, my blog was on Blogger and although it was by no means huge, I had a good, steady following with a few hundred hits a week from various places across the world. When I moved to WordPress, I’d hoped to make some changes that would grow my readership, but there’s been a massive drop in hits. There are almost none from outside the UK now, and frankly, there aren’t many of those either.

When I left Blogger, I signposted to my new website. I’ve changed the web address anywhere that the previous site address was held, and yet still, the Google Analytics plug-in tells me that I’m getting no hits at all on some days, and only a very small number on other days (I haven’t even broken 20 in one day yet). I don’t understand why this would be and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

What were your analytics telling you when you had Blogger, do you remember why you were getting website hits? E.g. Because of keyword searches on Google?

I’ll be honest and say I’m not the most technologically intelligent person, so I’m not entirely sure I understand a lot of what Google Analytics tells me, but looking at the stats for, for example, November-December 2014, it looks as though the majority of hits were generated through a specific website I know and posted a few things on, then a large number went directly to the website, a slightly smaller number came from a Google search, and then a few from Facebook, Twitter, etc.

It could be that when your website is linked through one of these sites, Facebook for example, it’s missing something like a thumbnail or other information.
