Massive spam in French language

    Hello,

    We use Akismet in conjunction with Gravity Forms. Since a few days we receive massive spam in French language, which cannot be filtered by Akismet.

    The fields first name, last name, e-mail and website are mapped accordingly and the honeypot is also activated.

    Unfortunately, the mentioned contact form does not work (Safari & Chrome). I get the error message: “There was an error processing your submission. Try refreshing the page or using a different browser.”.

    Thanks for reporting that! I’m seeing the same error, so we’re looking into that.

    In the meantime, I do see some of this recent spam that is hitting your website. Are you marking them as spam?

    Hi there.

    We’ll see what we can do in regards to your missed spam reports, but a more effective way could be to better target the ad campaign that most of those submitters seems to be coming from to only German speakers. The one that includes the following Google parameters when someone clicks on it: ?gad_source=5&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjPaX-cOtiAMVKplQBh040BFdEAAYASAAEgKk-

    Yes, we mark the spam, in the meantime we have already marked 189 entries.

    We are looking at the note with the ad campaign, but the spam should still be blocked, right?

    @cfinke We continued to struggle with a lot of spam over the weekend and today, which we have marked accordingly. Are there any other approaches we can pursue?

    I’ve been looking at your missed spam reports, and I’m not sure that there’s much more Akismet can do on these kinds of submissions. There’s very little actual content in the submissions, typically just a single short phrase like “Merci” or “I’m interested in your offerings” (in French), so Akismet does not have much to go on. This might be a scenario where a Captcha or some other challenge field is more appropriate.
