Max number of 3 called but displaying 4

I have a do_shortcode in a page template:
<?php echo do_shortcode( '[google-calendar-events id="1" max="3" type="list-grouped"]' ); ?>

But it is displaying 4 events. I have gone into the setting of the feed and marked “Maximum number of events to retrieve” to 3 and it still displays four. Any suggestions?
