• The current default max length of 400 characters for textareas in Contact Form 7 is far too limited for our needs. We have numerous websites that use these forms, and manually updating all forms before each update would be extremely time-consuming.

    In general, 400 characters are insufficient for most applications. We propose increasing the default max length for textareas to at least 1500 to 2000 characters. This adjustment would greatly benefit users who require longer input fields without having to modify the attribute manually each time.

    Thank you for your understanding and support.

    I hope this message finds you well.

    I am writing to propose an adjustment to the default values for text areas in our forms. Currently, while a rollback is not necessarily required, I believe it would be beneficial to increase the default character limit for text areas. Specifically, setting a range of 1000 to 1500 characters as the standard would eliminate the need for frequent manual adjustments on individual forms.

    This adjustment aims to enhance usability and accommodate typical usage scenarios more effectively.

    Thank you for considering this proposal. I look forward to your feedback.

    Best regards

    @bmove @takayukister Agree!

    It would be a lot of work to change all the forms on all the sites that we maintain. Or maybe introduce a filter which can change the default value?

    400 is way too low a default for textarea . Agree with OP that 1500-2000 default would work much better. We use CF7 across maybe 200 sites and there’s no way we are going to edit the shortcode on all of those to increase character limit manually – it needs to be much higher by default in the plugin.

    Has this changed recently by the way? I’ve only just noticed it now when pasting content into a textarea box.

    It seems it changed recently, can we request the ability to have a hook to control this as well or the ability to remove the limit with a hook?
