    Hi,

I received the following email from Maxmind:

    “Hello,

As of Wednesday, May 1, 2024, we will use R2 presigned URLs for all database downloads in order to increase the security and reliability of our services.

This is a potential breaking change. Please ensure that your servers can make HTTPS connections to the following hostname:

     mm-prod-geoip-databases.a2649acb697e2c09b632799562c076f2.r2.cloudflarestorage.com

We recommend confirming the above as early as possible.

The permalinks from the download page in your account portal (login required) will not be changing. You will be redirected from those permalinks to the R2 presigned URLs.

For more information, please review our documentation on directly downloading databases.

If you download databases manually through the account portal and encounter an error, we recommend checking your firewall and browser security settings before trying again.?“

What is it and should I do something? I know that Maxmind is used by WooCommerce for geolocalisation but I don’t know more than that.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi there @fotske,

    Thank you for reaching out!

The email you received from Maxmind is about an update to their systems. They are changing the way they provide database downloads to enhance their security and reliability.

In WooCommerce, Maxmind is indeed used for geolocation services. The change they are implementing may affect how WooCommerce interacts with Maxmind if your servers aren’t able to make secure HTTPS connections to the new hostname they provided.

To ensure there are no disruptions to your service, you should confirm that your servers can connect to the new hostname they shared. This can usually be done by your hosting provider or your system administrator.

I hope this clarifies any confusion. We’re here to help!
