    Hi,

This may not be caused by Shield but was (I think) the latest updated thing and since it can block what it thinks is bad I thought I’d start here, if it couldn’t be your plugin I’m sorry for wasting your time.

I have the latest version of Shield, WP and a few other plugs.

I went and added a youtube embedded video to a post that already has some vids and text and links.

All was well, it looked good, so I hit update and… the page was complete except for the videos, none showed, so I clicked on the text view and all the embed codes were just gone.

I went to the revisions part, went to compare the latest with the one before it (which happened to be an autosave, so would probably be no different), but there was nothing showing at all except the titles, so I clicked to look at the latest one back before then and that was 2 days ago and by doing that it does show the latest post and the 2 day old completely, not just the titles.

Comparing the two, the embed codes were gone in the new one and a little bit of what is probably done by the tinyMCE plugin were different as it showed some semicolons in the new that the old didn’t have where it sets a different font, but other than that all was the same (except missing embeds)

I did nothing different EXCEPT before I tried to post, I had started a new user with author access figuring if it’s just posting I’d be using a sign-in that if for whatever reason someone got it, it wouldn’t have full access but could post. I also switched the author of all posts to the new user as the author of them so I could edit them if I wanted with the limited powers new user.

So I signed out without reverting to the old one and signed in using my original sign-in in case that somehow was the issue, it didn’t appear to be so I just reverted to the 2 day old post and didn’t add the new video.

Is there any way Shield could have stripped those embed codes off because of the new user or something?

Very sorry about the long post, just wanted to try to cover info you’d need. Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the long and detailed post – if only all support requests were this thorough ??

From what I understand, I don’t believe it was Shield responsible for this. It doesn’t strip data within requests – it’ll either just block the request, or not (and log it to the audit trail).

Worth trying to repeat what you did with Shield disabled, and then turning Shield back on to demonstrate that it’s not stripping the data. Not sure what went wrong, but could be any number of plugins etc.

    Thanks!

    Thanks much,

I played around with the stuff and kept reading up and came across some usually older posts in forums (like one from 8 years ago) taking about how tinyMCE would strip off iframes and then saw one person say it only did that when they posted from the text page, not the visual but still it makes no sense since the site is a month old and I’ve posted lots of vids and probably posted from both type pages and the fact it was a new user shouldn’t make a difference so I just got rid of tinyMCE and it seems ok so far.

If I ever figure out for sure what it is I’ll add the answer here but may never know for certain. Since you said it would only block and not strip then I’d say anyone else seeing the same type problem check if they have tinyMCE or another WYSIWYG editor and check that out since those play around with the HTML and apparently don’t play nice sometimes.

Thanks for the quick response and the plugin.

    Peace.
