Another question, in the long list of WP fields, I cannot find “role.” Do you know what this would be named?

To send the user role, you will need to use the “User Sync” feature of the premium plugin. This still requires additional code that can be found at https://github.com/ibericode/mailchimp-for-wordpress/blob/main/sample-code-snippets/premium/user-sync/send-user-roles-as-comma-separated-string.php.

That does seem like functionality that should be built into the app. Very odd that one of the most important user attributes is not natively available to sync.
