Media gets complicated with a plugin like BP Docs. For instance, if you use the WP media uploader on the front end in its default configuration, users can see all media in the library (which is not great). You can limit this to only show the media uploaded by the current user, which is fine if your plugin only deals with one user editing each item.
However, BuddyPress groups aren’t a concept that WP knows about. So how would you show media that should be visible to all of the users in a group? If you display all media authored by users in the group (WP can search media by author, as above), it’s likely that you’ll display items that users weren’t intending to share. With collaborative editing of docs in a group situation, using the WP media library is a puzzle.
