Some of my media uploads attachment pages will have content, but most will not.

If I set ‘No’ for “Show Media in search results?” in the main setting (Search Appearance > Media), and then for each individual attachment page that I want indexed, set ‘Yes’ for it in the Advanced meta box.

How does that compare to if I set ‘Yes’ for “Show Media in search results?” in the main setting, and then for each individual attachment page that I do not want indexed, set ‘No’ for it in the Advanced meta box.

The first method above would result in less work for me and seems more practical, but is there a hidden advantage in having Yoasts’ main setting set to ‘Yes’ I wonder?

    Thanks,

Technically both are the same method just depends on how many things you have to change as you noted. But, currently, if you choose ‘No’ in the main setting and ‘Yes’ at the individual level, the attachment sitemap is not created.

If you are using the sitemap feature, choose ‘Yes’ in the main setting and manually set ‘No’ at the individual level.

If you are not using the sitemap feature, you can choose whichever option is less work for your site.

Please note that having the attachment pages in the sitemap (or not in the sitemap) does not impact Google’s ability to find the attachment pages. As long as you are linking to the attachment pages, Google will find them.
