Media File (PDF) won't upload

  • I am trying to upload a very small test PDF. It has one line of text, no special characters. It is 9.55kB in size.

    It gets as far as “Crunching…” and nothing else happens.

    I have tried de-activating all plugins and re-installing WP.

    I have tried every which way of uploading: selecting the file, drag and drop, multi-file uploader, browser up loader. Nothing. All the same.

    I also tried uploading a small .jpg — exactly the same.

    I see that there are many later versions of WP, according to the drop-down above, but on my Updates page it says that I have the latest version.

    What version number of WordPress ARE you using?

    3.8.1 WordPress says that this is the latest version. Pretty much all my other WP sites have updated to 4.1.1 last night … but not this one!

    Right. Auto-updates for security (smaller, third-digit) updates didn’t start until some time after 3.8.1 — can’t remember when, but after that.

    Was there some reason that you haven’t updated that site?

    I use ManageWP, and it has always just auto-magically updated anything/everything that needs updating.

    Currently I am having problems with that site and ManageWP … it says it can’t see it!! I have support requests in with them, too!

    I would remove this site from ManageWP and then re-add it. That should fix the problem of MWP not seeing the site. Hopefully, it will also “see” the needed updates.

    As far as fixing your original uploader problem, have you tried deactivating all your plugins and trying to upload a pdf or jpg? If that solves the problem, then reactivate plugins one by one to find the one causing the problem.

    Just out of curiosity: have the plugins been continuing to be updated, just not the WP core?
