    Hi All
I have a problem where I decided to split off personal and archive posts from the blog on my business site and put them in a personal. I managed the export and import to the new location but my mmedia files did not copy across to the new location. The images are still linked to the ones in the library in the original location. I did recently install an ssl certificate and you’d think the importer could take that into account.
I’d welcome any ideas about what to do next.
    Allan
P.S. The original wordpress installation is: https://allanjackson.net and the new one is at https://allanjackson.net/personal/

Is that such a bad thing? It’s all the same server. Any new uploads will go where you expect them.

Yes, I know, the whole idea is to separate business from personal. Did the files copy over, just the links were not updated? Or do the files need to be moved as well?

You can update the links by using a DB search and replace tool like the one from interconnect/it. Be sure to make a backup first. This tool can really scramble your DB if you’re not careful.

If you need to move the files, there’s little recourse other than to use FTP to manually select and move the files. Any really onerous task can be scripted, but the time needed to develop, test, and debug the script needs to take reasonably less time than to do the actual task.

Thanks for the answer. The posts came across fine to the new WP installation but are somehow loading images from the original installation’s media library. That’s fine for now but I am concerned that not having images in the same WP installation as the posts may cause a problem in the long-term if I ever want to move those installations to another host. With 500+ posts I don’t want to take any chances that the link between posts and images is lost.

Right, if you don’t fix it now, you’ll have to fix it as part of the move, separately from the other adjustments required due to the move. If you’re like me, I’d have forgotten about this and would be mystified why some images aren’t loading in my new site. Best to fix it now.

The previously linked DB search and replace script will fix those links right up. It’s actually better to do this right away so you don’t have to worry about accidentally changing links that are correct.

I have solved this in an easier way if anyone’s interested. On the web I found a reference to a plugin called WP Clone. It copied across my entire original site to the new location and all I had to do was delete the pages, posts and media that I didn’t want in the new location. I then installed my new theme and styled everything.

WARNING: WP Clone will nuke the destination WP installation and you will lose everything. WP Clone IS NOT SUITABLE for merging posts from one installation into another.
