  • When a digital camera takes a photo in portrait orientation, it uses metadata to tell your system that its supposed to be oriented in portrait. When your photo is uploaded, that metadata isn’t always interpreted (like in a gallery for example or in a browser by itself).

    You’ll likely want to open your photos in your favorite photo editor and rotate them in order to solve this problem.

    Yes – this is the first thing I tried. Deleting the image from the wordpress media library, opening the file in a photo editor and rotating to the correct orientation, uploading the file again and adding it to my gallery.

    It didn’t work.
