• All of my media library missing

    https://www.stormymonday.net

Haven’t used the site in awhile, went to use it and got an error. Called Godaddy and they said I had been hacked and had malware. They installed WP 4.7.3 and disabled all plugins. I reactivated all plugins. Then access https://www.stormymonday.net and all media files are gone. You can see on the latest blog post the picture link is shown, but no pictures is displayed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • It looks like everything in your /wp-content/uploads (as well as the stormymonday.net/photos/) directory is returning a “404 not found” response. Use your FTP client to look inside those directories and see if everything is actually still there. If everything is still there, you might check file and directory ownership and permissions.

Thank you for answering! The files are not in the uploads folder. I have them on my PC, in my pictures, I can rebuild the uploads folder with the original pictures… But what would be the best way to recreate the thumbnails and get the posts to show the pictures?

    Thank you!

Your uploads directory appears to have been setup in the /year/month/ arrangement. I can see (missing directory) references from 2013 thru 2016. Each of those directories would have also contained 12 additional directories – one corresponding to each month of each year where media was uploaded. I imagine recreating thumbnails can probably be done easily with a plugin, but restoring those individual directories and making sure they all contain the original images with the original file names from scratch seems like it might be a huge undertaking.

The most efficient way to rebuild the file and directory structure is to just restore them from your last backup. If you don’t have one, you can ask your hosts support staff if they make automatic backups or not. Some do, some don’t.

    Hi Clayton,

I am afraid I don’t have a backup, and it would be expensive to get one from Godaddy. So I am going to recreate the files and then try to auto-gen the thumbnails with a plug in.

Thank you so much for your help!

My media files are suddenly missing and all the pages has been moved to trash and link has been broken for the menu. Kindly let me know what could be the reason.whether is the wordpress update issue?

I am sorry, I haven’t a clue how that could happen, it happened to me too. You can either recover from backup or rebuild like I am having to do. Best!

But it is my client Site , to redo the website it takes time so i just want to confirm what was the main issue if the client has changed wrongly we must charge them. now they are saying its not thier mistake. my intention is know the actual cause
