Hi,
currently, the uploaded media files are stored on the hosting server in Year>>Month folders which are in wp-content>>uploads folder. Of course, this is completely unusable for web sites where hundreds of images are uploaded every month. There is absolutely no control over them from the server end.

I use a plugin for my dashboard-media section, where the files are well-arranged in variety of sub-folders according to their categories.

How to make WordPress using these sub-categories for storage on the server instead of Year>>Month folders?

Thanks for the response.
This was my first plugin but I’ve removed it because it doesn’t have one fundamental option which makes it unusable.

Some other suggestions, please?

Just out of curiousity, what is that “one fundamental option” that it is missing? I’m not associated with the plugin, but I use it on a client’s site and it’s made life a whole lot easier on me.

When building the site and adding images to products or categories, the buttons for submitting images open window with the media library containing all files. The media folders and sub-folders are not shown there.
You know, for web-sites which use 30-50 photos, this is not a big deal but for web-sites containing thousands of images it just doesn’t work. I need 15 min. to find a single photo.

From plugin, they put this as a paid option (to show folders when adding images to products).

So it’s not that the functions not a part of the plugin, it’s that you have to pay to get access to that feature…

It is part of the plugin and this part is intentionally turned off in its free version.

Yup, that’s kind of the whole point of software development…

Some people code for fun as a hobby.. That’s why Open Source is so successful. But if you’re doing it with commercial intent, then of course you’re not going to give everything away for free.

I find I’ve had to balance that issue with my current clients, they’re a non-profit, and so budget is a big issue.

I’ve found however, that Media Library Folders, in combination with the search function of the default Media Library, can make this a lot easier process. Something you might want to consider.
