Media gallery images broken

We’ve switched to a new theme and, once again, I’m having issues with the media library. I had them before with other themes and various plugins installed, both enabled and disabled. The only thing I can find that may be wrong is that, for some reason, the folder Media Uploads supposedly creates on our server doesn’t exist there. So, it comes up as a broken image in the media library. This leads me to believe that this is a “communication” error between host and the installation.

If I upload an image to my server and link it here, it’s fine; but if I upload here, it doesn’t show on the server and is a broken image here.

This is only in the actual media library. Our current theme has a separate area in the dashboard for the slider images and other things, which all show up. Those areas give me an option to plug in a URL from the server, but the “featured product image” for the products in WooCommerce doesn’t give me that option. I can’t change the URL when I go to edit the image in the media library either.

The only images that show up in the media library are from 2008. images have been uploaded since then, but are also broken. The only time any of these images show is when I click ‘edit image’ in media library. They’re broken everywhere else.
