• I have two questions in using the Media Library in WP. [1] I upload my files in alphabetical order. Once uploaded and ready to be used the sort order is gone. [2] When I want to add images I open the media library and to my surprise the thumbnails are presented without their name and filtering is not always helpful because all files which have w- in their name are presented wilst I want the files starting with w-.

  • So this is the expected behavior of the library post-file upload. However you can have the library display things differently.

Return to your wp-admin and click Media on the left. Then click the icon for the detailed view, where you can sort by name and other options.

See here for a demo: https://www.screencast.com/t/RmSuYJg9sDx

You’ll also probably find this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/filebird/ SUPER useful for advanced ways to manage files.

Click the “list” button to see the media by name. Columns can be sorted, too.

I’am afraid that my question was not clear enough. The direct options of the Media Library are known to me. I refer to the indirect access. I have a page and in this page I want to add one or more images, I select Image and then you see three options: Upload Media Library Add via URL; I select Media Libray and there is no possibility for a List Display, you only see a lot of thumbnails and a filter option for a date and a search field, the thumbnails have no ID at all

I see, and yes, that’s not as good as it could be! I put in a ticket on your behalf: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/52489
