• I have recently set up a new subdomain – lpe.baphot.co.uk.
All seems to be working except image handling. Any images uploaded to the media library are shown as blank rectangles on the thumbnails screen and if I try to load them onto a page, they are blank too
I have tried various advice pages and, following their guidance, tried disabling plugins and altering the attributes in uploads but to no effect.

Is this a common problem ? There are forum posts that seem similar but no suggested resolutions that look appropriate for me.

    Thanks, Nick

  • Hi Nick,

Please check directory permission of uploads folder which is in wp-content directory.

    Thanks,

    Hi Nitish
    Thank you for replying.
I have followed the advice on several sites (e.g. wpengine.co.uk) and changed the uploads folder permissions to 744 for directories and 644 for files but this has no effect on the problem. Is there anything else I should be doing there? or any further actions I should take after those changes?
    Thanks, Nick

I created another subdomain today in the hope that it would work on setup and I could put the original problem down to corruption and just start it again.
Unfortunately, before installing any plugins, the new subdomain is just the same – the media library thumbnail of the image I uploaded is a blank rectangle.
I set the update permissions to 744 for directories and 644 for files again, but no change.
I note that when I click on the image and then click Edit, I can actually see it so it is in the system – that applies to the original subdomain too.
    Any suggestions, please?

I have at least a partial answer. I set all the permissions to 755, then if I add alt text AND a caption to each image, they appear one-by-one.
It’s a bit of a pain, but manageable.
Is there an easy was to mass edit alts and comments? (though i realise this rather negates the purpose of alts).

I have similar problem with my website. I was trying to update the pictures of my site and add new ones. All new pictures gets the same blank thumbnails. When I edit it, I can see the picture, but it does not appear on the live page, and on media library. I tried to add alt and caption for them as well, but still they do not appear.

One other point is that whether it be in the backend of the site or the live preview on a browser, when I access the site from Safari, the pictures are visible , but on chrome and mozilla, nope.

What could be the problem? any suggestion?
