• After updating to WP 4.7 our Media library broke… all the images are now broken in the library and on the site. We cannot upload or drag and drop to the media library. The images are still there when looking at the server directory, wp-content/uploads. Luckily, the site is just a single page and the domain is for sale, so no real harm, but it is scary to think one of our active sites could brake this way. We deactivated the plug-ins, that did not resolve the issue. Since it is just this one page we re-installed WP and will build the page from scratch. I’d like to know if there is some other solution in case it happens to an active site.

  • Do you have any plugins installed? Also are you using a default wp theme?

While that shouldn’t happen after a core WordPress update, I would recommend regenerating your thumbnails using one of the popular plugins:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/

It sounds like the reference to the media items is still there (in the database), so as long as the images have not been moved from the location that they were originally uploaded to, the plugins above might resolve the issue.

Many thanks for the replies… We use a child to the Divi-theme and have no plug-ins for this particular page, other than the Divi-builder. If this problem occurs on one of our other sites (once we get up the courage to update to 4.7…), we will definitely try one of the thumbnail re-generators. This has been a good reminder of regularly backing up, certainly before doing any updates.

Have similar problem. Media Links fail in Mystile theme after WP 4.7 upgrade. 500 error. Generates error code:
    20161214T185939: https://www.myannaart.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in /hermes/bosnaweb03b/b2444/ipg.myannaartcom/wp-admin/includes/update.php on line 463

    ME TOO!

No amount of fiddling with the plugins or permissions has helped. I can’t access my old photos, and I can’t upload new ones. My site is a wreck. ??
