Media Library crashing site? Go Daddy

  • I’m having a real problem with timeouts/500 Server Errors. 95% of the time, when I jump from from menu item to the next, or when I upload photos, or when I try to add media to a blog post, I consistently get these timeout errors. I talked to Go Daddy hosting support, and was told that I have too many photos saved in my Media Library. They say it’s not a problem on their end. I use a shared server, but I was the only person on that server when I called support.

    Can anyone help me? This constant error is costing me time and is extremely frustrating. Is there a size limit to Media Library?

    FYI: granniegeek.com; I edit pics in photoshop, resize them to 800 px, save them for the web, and then upload.

    No. My best guess is that this is a poor server. Unfortunately, GD are rather well-known for this but try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message to prove it. GD should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

    So, I shouldn’t be having this problem? This is a bunch of baloney?? Yes, I was on the phone with support when they checked the error logs. I had 92 errors, just with media uploads alone, and that’s been just over a couple of weeks. They also put a folder in file manager specifically for recording errors. I can take a look at that, but I won’t understand it.

    Nope. Not with handling images of the size you mentioned. You’re being positively conservative with your image upload sizes (which is far better than most site owners).

    If you could post just a few of the errors in the log here, we could have a look and confirm this. But, longer term, you might want to think about using another host. Although we do not personally endorse them, there are some hosts listed here that should give you far better performance. I wouldn’t touch GD hosting myself but I’ve noticed that many of my GD hosted clients have sites that run like treacle compared to the non-GD hosted ones. ??

    I’m also having the same problem. I’m also using GoDaddy shared web hosting. I’ve been in contact with their support but they aren’t much help at the moment.
